The Inch House Irish Studies Centre employs a wide range of speakers to suit every type of programme need. These speakers are experts in politic science, social sciences, the arts and international business. For example, our sociology, conflict resolution and communications programmes generally include a variety of seminars, lectures and workshops from local and national politicians (including Members of the European Parliament, TDs from the Irish parliament, MLAs from the Stormont Executive & the City Mayors from Derry) community leaders and internationally recognised academics who specialise in many topics ranging from 16th Century Irish History to International Business to Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies. Our literature and liberal arts students engage with an equally diverse range of speakers, including artists and film makers, university professors, playwrights and poets. Many local entrepreneurs and business leaders speak to our management students, including Enterprise Ireland, The IDA, Údarás na Gaeltachta and Failte Ireland. Professor John Hume, Nobel Peace Prize winner and former MEP is a regular speaker at our centre. Our students also learn much about the history, geography and anthropology of Ireland over the course of their stay. Programmes usually include an Irish language lesson from a qualified Irish language teacher to teach students a cúpla focail (a few words).
